Gum Treatment

Gum Treatment

Swelling and bleeding gums are caused by the accumulation of plaque and tartar around the teeth. If the oral hygiene is not maintained properly and professional cleaning is not done it may cause severe destruction of gum tissue and underlying supporting bone resulting in bone loss and loosening of teeth. In such conditions gum treatment is done.

  • Deep cleaning if there is more debris within the gums and bones surrounding them.
  • Flap surgery if there is gingival recession
  • Bone grafts if there is loss of bone due to infection.
  • The various gum treatments aim on improving the gingival health and strengthening them. Along with the treatment, medications and mouth rinses are given to improve the gingival health.
  • Frenectomy – Reduction of frenum near the lips if they are attached in high than usual position and frenum on the tip of tongues in cases of tongue tie.
  • Operculectomy – Removal of gingiva covering the tooth yet to be erupted which is inflamed due to food impaction.
